Description: ---------------- * The AEW track data used is by Yuan Ming PhD dissertation (https://search.proquest.com/openview/56bd46cf2e667f26d8689475473c0ee0/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=18750&diss=y), which follows Brammer et al. 2018 (doi.org/10.1175/MWR-D-18-0065.1) tracking method is used here. As done in Ocasio et al. 2020 (doi.org/10.1175/MWR-D-20-0152.1), developing AEWs are considered up to the time step right before they undergo TCG (becomes a tropical depression), and for NDAEWs until termination. AEWs that initiate in the west Atlantic are excluded from the analysis. Additional Information: ------------------------------ - Files 'data_2004_2008_erai_geo_y.mat', 'data_YYYY_erai_geo_y.mat', and 'olrdata_YYYY_erai_geo_y.mat' are used to produce the geographic composites plots. - Files with name starting with ‘all_waves_centerboxes_’ and 'YYYYall_waves_centerboxes' are used to produce the wave-center composites plots. Note that the ‘waves’ structure in these files are divided by regions A, B, C, and D. Regions B, C, and D in the files are region called A, B, C in the Figures. - Recall that regions B, C, D in these files are regions A, B, C in the wave-centered plots respectively. To plot the wave-center total wind streamlines for each region (Figure 9) use data in files called ‘Buv700_1990_2010_erai_Y.mat ‘, ‘Cuv700_1990_2010_erai_Y.mat ‘, and ‘Duv700_1990_2010_erai_Y.mat ‘, to plot the 700 hPa streamlines. Note that for each file, variables ‘relx_ed_700’ and ‘rely_ed_700’ are 700 hPa zonal and meridional wind for developing AEWs and variables ‘relx_end_700’ and ‘rely_end_700’ are 700 hPa zonal and meridional wind for non-developing AEWs.
