| Abstract | This dataset contains atmospheric and oceanic model output from a suite of five coupled general circulation model (GCM) experiments designed to systematically modulate tropical cyclone (TC) activity. Experiments were conducted using the NSF/NCAR Community Earth System Model (CESM) in a coupled aquaplanet configuration at approximately 0.25° horizontal resolution in the atmosphere. TC activity was artificially increased ("seeding") by inserting analytically derived, dynamically balanced axisymmetric vortices into the model state at candidate storm locations, and decreased ("unseeding") by detecting and subtracting corresponding anticyclonic vortices. The experiments span a range from near-complete TC suppression to substantially enhanced TC activity relative to a control simulation. The dataset supports analysis of TC-climate feedbacks, including responses in sea surface temperature, atmospheric moisture, and top-of-atmosphere radiation. TC tracks were identified using the TempestExtremes detection and tracking software. |
