Abstract | This study reports on the findings of a multi-pronged study of the Economic Impact of Tourism on Adams County, Pennsylvania. This area is home to two large and popular tourist destinations, the Gettysburg National Military Park and the Eisenhower National Historic Site (both in Gettysburg). We focus on the following dimensions: 1) The identification of current tourism related activities available in Adams County; (2) an assessment of the revenues generated by these activities; (3) a comparison of Park related tourism with non-Park activities; (4) a profile of the sociodemographic characteristics of the people visiting the area; and (5) the identification of opportunities for future tourism-related development in the area. To accomplish these goals we use key informant surveys, focus groups, and exit interviews. Possible implications of our findings are advanced. |
